Homespun Homeschool Week #5

Week 5 of Homeschool: We skip-counted 9’s and 10’s and made flip-books, studied the life and times of George Washington, learned about the 5 senses and made booklets, performed an experiment to see how epidermal cells are rubbed off, studied John 1:5 and looked up key words in Greek, learned the capitals of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee, studied the irregular verb “to be,” practiced perspective by using a vanishing point, read Peach Pit Popularity, practiced cursive and learning letters, learned the Latin words for brother, sister, father and mother and wrote about the printing press!

Homespun Homeschool Week #4

Week 4 of Homeschool: We skip counted 7’s and 8’s, performed an experiment to measure our lung capacity, visited Machado Orchards in Auburn, and learned about fruit and how it is processed (even into pies!), learned all about the brain and made brain hemisphere hats, made life-size human bodies and added body parts, learned about the Declaration of Independence and made replicas, studied the 3 parts of the nervous system, studied participle parts, wrote more about our trip to Santa Fe, studied Latin verbs and learned a Latin song about family members, made abstract art using color quadrants, learned about Florida and prayed for the people affected by the hurricane, and wrote thank you cards for Francis’ birthday!

 

Homespun Homeschool Week #3

Week 3 of Homeschool: We learned about three kinds of muscle, wrote about kids bringing cell phones to school, learned about the Boston Tea Party and made our own colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians, took our fingerprints and compared our unique differences, turned our family into Minute Men and Red Coats (the boys versus Mommy & Daddy!), made an original colony American Flag, practiced drawing an image upside-down, wrote about our vacation to Santa Fe, learned the capitols of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, wrote our own “Mayflower Compact,” studied past participles, skip counted our 5’s and 6’s and worked on adding doubles, studied Latin pronouns, learned new Latin songs and practiced drawing!

Homespun Homeschool Week #2

Week 2 of Homeschool: We learned about the Pilgrims and Plymouth Plantation, read Pinocchio, learned about the bones of the Axial Skeleton, built the Latin alphabet with letter blocks, caught a praying mantis and learned about its molting process, practiced writing our names, learned the capitals of Vermont, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania & Delaware, studied John 1:2, finished reading Classical Music for Dummies & Started reading Opera for Dummies, worked on skip counting 3’s and 4’s, used pattern blocks to complete mirror images, made paper dinosaurs and dinosaur bone cookies for Francis’ 4th birthday, performed a water drop lens experiment, wrote a story called “The Boy President” and had Daddy teach us school for a day!
