Homespun Homeschool Week #29

Week 29 of Homeschool: We practiced penmanship, worked with acrylic paint, reviewed Latin, classified clouds, read books while cuddling bunnies, diagrammed sentences, took visual notes on Sunday’s sermon, performed drum beats for our homeschool community, learned about some parts of the atmosphere, read books while walking, labeled parts of speech, rode our bikes, worked on reading comprehension, learned the Latin days of the week, read our pre-Essentials paper to our class (Francis), read our Faces of History paper to our Essentials class (Field), and celebrated Classical Conversations graduations into 2 new programs!

Homespun Homeschool Week #28

Week 28 of Homeschool: We visited Moaning caverns and explored the largest single cave chamber in California, learned about different types of clouds, grew our own crystals in three colors, learned about the liberation of South America, practiced our pencil drawing skills (Francis), worked on noun endings, panned for gold and precious stones, labeled parts of speech, learned the Distributive Law for math, looked up vocabulary words in the dictionary, practiced reading our Faces of History paper, reviewed grammar charts, practiced piano and drums, reviewed Latin, and classified the weather (hail storm) in our backyard!

Week 27 of Homeschool: We worked on our watercolor skills, typed our final draft for our Faces of History paper (Field), built a ukulele and learned how to play basic chords, learned about the British North American Act, worked on geometry and multiplication, typed our final draft for our first pre-Essentials paper (Francis), learned about different kinds of weather fronts, made a felt succulent garden, worked on possessive plural nouns, worked on reading comprehension, read in Black Ships Before Troy, worked on Prefixes, read in the Cooper Kids Mystery series, and celebrated our cousins birthdays!

Homespun Homeschool Week #26

Week 26 of Homeschool: We analyzed rocks for streaks, hardness and magnetism, shaded a landscape with color using acrylic paint (Francis), wrote our first Essentials paper using a key word outline, learned about the different layers in the atmosphere, wrote the Bibliography for our Faces of History paper, started growing crystals, learned about the exploration of Canada, designed text on glassware, journaled about our time in Lake Tahoe, learned about the 5 major circles of latitude, made a replica of Bilbo’s sword “Sting,” worked on reading comprehension, learned the Associative Laws for addition and multiplication, read from the Cooper Kids book series, worked on Latin, designed a CD cover for our original music (Field), read Aesop’s Fables, and welcomed 5 baby bunnies into the world!

Homespun Homeschool Week #25

Week 25 of Homeschool: We built an Ames Room and watched pennies shrink, wrote an original short novel (Field) and Illustrated the cover (Francis), learned about the Anasazi and reminisced about our trip to Bandelier National Park, listened to Herbie Hancock’s Watermelon Man and learned how to play it on piano and drums, learned about ocean zones and handmade soap with fish in each layer, wrote the three body paragraphs for our Faces of History paper and cited all the sources in our Bibliography, learned how to find the area of a circle, played parts-of-a-sentence Bingo, painted a tropical scene with watercolor, learned latin 3rd Declension Noun Endings, practiced writing singular and plural possessive nouns, and wrote our first Essentials paper, pre-Essentials (Francis couldn’t wait!)!

Homespun Homeschool Week #24

Week 24 of Homeschool: We built a table tennis ball-launcher, wrote the final draft for our imaginative essay about the wonders of the ancient world, made origami bunnies, worked on reading comprehension, did research on fun things to do in Sacramento, labeled parts of speech, learned about Vietnam’s traditions and geography, worked on prefixes and contractions, learned how to make soap and had fun designing our own creations, worked on music theory, finished our one paragraph essay about our favorite cartoons, drew a deer using colored pencils and new techniques, read tons of Diary of a Wimpy kid books, and worked as waiters and dishwashers at our annual church auction!

Homespun Homeschool Week #23

Week 23 of Homeschool: We practiced drawing a map of the world, wrote a rough draft for an essay about “My Favorite Cartoons,” learned about the science of bridges and tried a bridge-building-challenge, learned all about the four types of ocean floor, delved into the mysterious world of ancient mound builders, wrote the key word outline for an imaginative five paragraph essay about the wonders of the ancient world, gave a presentation on our art classes and colored pencil drawing of a cat, worked on reading comprehension, learned about the coral habitat, worked on Latin, located ancient Mesoamerican civilizations on a map, learned how to find the area of a triangle, and had a blast (with glow sticks) with our Classical Conversations community!

Homespun Homeschool Week #22

Week 22 of Homeschool: We learned about the artist Michelangelo and painted portions of the Sistine Chapel laying on our backs, learned how to find the area of a square, laid out a timeline of all history and recited every event, wrote a paper about water, looked at helping verbs, learned the parts of a volcano and made a toothpaste volcano explode, practiced our drawing skills on a portrait in art class, aced a grammar test, prepared for our Faces of History paper, learned about the ancient Aztec culture, practiced drums and piano, worked on Latin second declension noun endings, looked at African countries on the map, and taught Latin to our class (Field) by applying declension endings to Latin words!

Homespun Homeschool Week #21

Week 21 of Homeschool: We played piano for Certificate of Merit, practiced drawing Africa freehand, learned how to write using the Mayan number system, painted a watercolor landscape, wrote a paper about our bedroom (Francis), worked on Latin, looked at the geography of Malaysia and Singapore, worked on reading comprehension, learned about the different kinds of volcanoes, created our own calendar system, worked on vocabulary words, learned about Durer and made block prints, worked on word contractions, learned about the ancient civilizations of Mesoamerica, looked at helping verbs, learned how to find the area of a rectangle, worked on sentence diagramming, and built a time machine!

Homespun Homeschool Week #20

Week 20 of Homeschool: We learned about rock characteristics and categorized some, found the highest mountain on every continent, took a colored pencil drawing class and drew a cat, learned metric measurements, read scriptures about self-control, learned about fossils and made our own with seashells, practiced our editing skills, learned about Prince Henry in Portugal, learned about the artist Angelico and painted in his style, looked at the the geography of the Hebrew Empire and the Middle East, researched for our Faces of History paper, finished reading Through The Looking Glass, and played Scrabble!
