Homespun Homeschool Week #4

Week 4 of Homespun Homeschool: We wrote a research paper on the venus fly trap, visited the UC Davis Bohart Museum of Entomology and looked at insects up close, read about the Magna Carta, continued practicing drawing American geography from memory, wrote rhymes, practiced diagramming sentences, Finished Reading Carry On, Mr. Bowditch and started reading The Magician’s Nephew, worked on pencil technique in our art class, wrote a paper about Beowulf, folded an origami snoopy house, learned about parts of the food chain, worked on spelling, learned nominative pronouns, practiced solving improper fractions, and gave a presentation on a super-sized sunflower!

Homespun Homeschool Week #3

Week 3 of Homespun Homeschool: We wrote a research paper on rocks, taught math and Latin to our Classical Conversations community, visited the Charles Schultz Museum, learned about three types of consumers, wrote a paper about Justinian the Great, got a first edition of the early 1900’s book Schultz learned to draw cartoons from, learned about the Crusades, went to see the original JAWS movie in 3D, played National Number Knockout, learned pronoun order, added to our Latin vocabulary, continued reading Carry on Mr. Bowditch, read and wrote in Latin, practiced drawing American geography from memory, practiced skip-counting, worked on Latin first conjugation imperfect tense, learned the geography of western European countries, and hiked the sand dunes on the coast at Dillon Beach!

Homespun Homeschool Week #2

Week 2 of Homespun Homeschool: We learned about William the Conqueror and feudalism, drew a map of Canada and Greenland from memory, wrote a key word outline and paper about the Anglo-Saxons, learned the definition of a pronoun, wrote a research paper on the solar system and gave a presentation on it, practiced drawing bass and treble clefs, gave a presentation on an enormous sunflower from our cousins garden, discussed seven types of biomes, practiced multiplication facts and skip counting, read in McGuffey’s 4th Reader, worked on algebraic equations, practiced writing synonyms, and added exponents to our National Number Knockout bag of tricks!

Homespun Homeschool Week #1

Week 1 (and year 7!) of Homespun Homeschool: We carried on our tradition of opening schule-tutes filled with school surprises, started Challenge A with our CC community (Field!), learned all about Charlemagne, looked at continents and oceans and made a paper globe, translated Latin phrases, memorized Canada’s territories, provinces and capitals, read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and started an ANI chart, wrote a key word outline for a paper about the Anglo Saxons, started reading Carry On, Mr. Bowditch, drew maps of Narnia from the Pevensie children’s perspective, painted abstract art on tiny canvases, worked on spelling, learned analogy basics, looked at the timeline from creation to the Mycenaens, learned the 8 parts of speech, started Pre-Algebra math, started riding a bike without Dad (Francis!), and celebrated the start to the school year with tacos at Nixtaco!

Homespun Homeschool Week #35

Week 35 of Homeschool: We built a coin-sorting machine, practiced colored pencil technique, diagrammed sentences, read in the Cooper Kids book series, had a piano recital (Field), worked on Latin pronouns, played original arcade video games, read in Aesop’s Fables, worked on penmanship, finished 3rd grade math, met with friends for coffee, finished 3rd grade grammar, went to Sunsplash with friends, and celebrated the end of the school year with a stack of homemade waffles!

Homespun Homeschool Week #34

Week 34 of Homeschool: We diagrammed sentences, practiced watercolor technique, labelled parts of a sentence, composed a 5-song album (Field), worked on Latin vocabulary, finished our reading comprehension grade 3 book, finished grade 6 math, worked on penmanship and celebrated granny’s birthday!

Homespun Homeschool Week #33

Week 33 of Homeschool: We worked on penmanship, painted impressionistic art with acrylics, learned new Latin words, practiced labelling parts of a sentence, diagrammed sentences, worked on skip-counting, worked on reading comprehension read in the Cooper Kids series, played stick ball, worked on division, and celebrated Mother’s Day!

Homespun Homeschool Week #32

Week 32 of Homeschool: We went to the Crocker Art Museum, worked on Suffixes, practiced our pencil drawing technique, learned about the Visigoths, Huns and Vandals, played stick-ball in the park, learned how to count in Latin, built a twin size bed, worked on Latin tenses, practiced penmanship, put together more puzzles, diagrammed sentences, and performed our piano recital piece at a group lesson!

Homespun Homeschool Week #31

Week 31 of Homeschool: We worked on watercolor skills, read DogMan books, practiced finding prefixes, read in the Cooper Kids book series, assembled a 1000-piece LEGO puzzle, worked on reading comprehension, learned new Latin words, attempted to solve the crime of The Great Art Scandal (interactive book), took walks, started reading in A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23, worked on penmanship, baked chocolate chip cookies without mom (yum!), practiced piano and drums, played math games, and painted our new bedrooms!

Homespun Homeschool Week #30

Week 30 of Homeschool: We learned how to make soap and sold handmade creations at our Classical Conversations Community Market Fair, had an art lesson on drawing with colored pencils, worked on reading comprehension, created comic strips about Phil Beaned, made anagrams using our family’s names, learned new Latin vocabulary, finished the entire Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series (all 16 books! Francis!), researched the nutritional content of Oreo cookies, finished our math curriculum for the year (Field), visited the Flower Farm in Loomis, worked on penmanship, hiked along the river, sold pranks at our Market Fair, and presented Latin and Science to our Classical Conversations community!
