Homespun Homeschool Week #19

Week 19 of Homeschool: We gave a presentation on our Rubik’s cubes, reviewed Latin noun cases, learned about the Renaissance artist Ghiberti and created our own metal reliefs, worked on reading comprehension, aced our grammar test (Francis), took a class on how to paint landscapes with acrylic paint, looked at 3 kinds of rock, made a faux leather art portfolio, played math games, learned linear equivalents, improved sentences, memorized the definition of a helping verb, wrote a key word outline for a paper on Mt Vesuvius, made a gingerbread pull-apart, and recorded piano pieces to submit to Certificate of Merit!

Homespun Homeschool Week #18

Week 18 of Homeschool: We wrote a paper about Pentre Ifan, read the first 2 Diary of a Wimpy Kid books all by ourselves (Francis), learned about the Kush, worked on reading comprehension, looked at the layers of the earth and took our own core samples with layers of clay, drew a commissioned work, reviewed Latin noun cases, worked on our watercolor skills, learned liquid equivalents, gave presentations on our X-Box controller, learned how to make nouns and verbs agree, worked on perspective in drawing, looked at the geography of Laos and Cambodia, diagrammed sentences, and learned about the artist Giotto and painted using egg tempera!

Homespun Homeschool Week #17

Week 17 of Homeschool: We read Norse Myths and learned about Thor, wrote a two-point paragraph about our favorite game, worked on drawing skills by breaking things down to their simplest forms, labeled parts of speech and types of sentences, practiced drums by playing duets, wrote a paper about un unlikely winner of a horse race, practiced piano, learned about Ancient Egyptians and life on the Nile, worked on averages and long addition, had our first drawing lesson with our new teacher, threw a pot on our wheel and painted it to look antiquated, started writing a book about the history of video games, and went to the snow with church friends!

Week 16 of Homeschool: We continued our Advent readings, wrote sentences and improved them, learned the science of snowflakes, drew the Grinch (Francis), created prepositional phrases, read more in Through the Looking glass, continued marking parts of speech, read books about snow, conquered the highest level in our math flip-books, started the rough draft for our IEW paper, performed Silver Bells at a piano recital (Field), Read in Where The Red Fern Grows, worked on reading comprehension, built a gingerbread house, and saw Elf The Musical!

Homespun Homeschool Week #15

Week 15 of Homeschool: We learned about the earliest known peoples and their geography and customs, did Advent readings, added prepositions and objects of prepositions into the mix and marked parts of speech, read more in Through The Looking Glass, learned new vocabulary words, worked on reading comprehension, took walks, saw the Nutcracker Ballet in Auburn, and went to Fairytale Town to see mom caroling!

Homespun Homeschool Week #14

Week 14 of Homeschool: We wrote a topical two point paragraph, painted Christmas trees, worked on reading comprehension, started the key word outline for our next paper, worked again on memorizing the months of the year, marked parts of speech, worked on improving sentences, experimented with watercolor pens, wrote clues about each member of the family and guessed who they were about, and made fruit tarts from scratch and sold them at our end of the year Classical Conversations Market Fair!

Homespun Homeschool Week #13

Week 13 of Homeschool: We started studying the book of James, built a paper star, gave presentations on our mini-library, finished reading A Wrinkle in Time and drew a picture with Aunt Beast, learned about the Muslim Empire, wrote a paper about a character named King Nutella in ancient Egypt, harvested grapefruits from our backyard, looked at prepositions, learned about plant systems, looked at 5th declension noun endings, got school portraits taken, looked at the geography of the Muslim Empire, performed Amazing Grace in 3-part harmony in a tin whistle choir, and had and end-of-the-year auction and bid and won prizes!

Homespun Homeschool Week #12

Week 12 of Homeschool: We played grammar games with our Classical Conversations community, learned about Constantine and the Byzantine Empire, practiced word contractions, diagrammed sentences, finished building our mini-library, worked on music theory, classified sentences, skip-counted cubes, played tin whistle, diagrammed sentences, wrote a paper, read more in a Wrinkle in Time, and read Green Eggs & Ham and made some (yum)!

Homespun Homeschool Week #11

Week 11 of Homeschool: We practiced our multiplication tables, learned about Japan’s Heian period, worked on reading comprehension, wrote a paper about Ashurbanipal, dissected an owl pellet and categorized rodent bones, learned about South America and sewed a sloth, practiced classifying sentences, learned new vocabulary words and wrote their definitions, read in the McGuffy reader, skip counted the squares, learned kinds of leaves and leaf parts, looked at Latin singular 4th declensions, practiced writing numbers, gave a presentation on our legos, and traded Pokemon cards with friends!

Homespun Homeschool Week #10

Week 10 of Homeschool: We gave a book report on The Hobbit to our class, dissected a crawfish and identified its parts, learned how to edit writing mistakes, looked at prepositions, labeled parts of speech, learned about rhythm in music, built more of our mini-library, learned about Lao-Tzu and Confucious in China, helped fill our front yard with landscaping material, looked at Latin 4th declension noun endings, skip counted the 15s, practiced playing music on our tin whistles, looked at the parts of a plant, picked our Faces of History final paper character (James, brother of Jesus), wrote a paper, and won a prize for our homemade ice cream pie!
