Homespun Homeschool Week #27

Week 27 of Homeschool: We learned the geography of south central Asia, created word wheels and used them to practice reading, worked on math stacks, drew portraits of family members, learned about the Vietnam War, diagrammed sentences, learned how to find the circumference of a circle, created original fonts, worked on Latin future perfect endings, created a Lion Witch and Wardrobe shadowbox, learned the second law of thermodynamics, worked on spelling, researched sources, brainstormed, created a key word outline and started writing our Faces of History paper about King Arthur, learned what an appositive is, played our first baseball game of the season, and made people laugh hysterically as we (Field) read our paper about a medieval time-traveling king who gets tangled up in American politics, eats McDonalds, goes to a Baby Metal concert, and discovers Picasso!

Homespun Homeschool Week #26

Week 26 of Homeschool: We learned about the Korean War, analyzed physics by building bridges then tested them for sturdiness, made shrink art for our end of the year market day sale, learned about the first law of thermodynamics and discussed the origin of life, learned how to find the area of a circle, practiced finding odd and even numbers, worked on spelling and sounding out words, looked at Latin perfect tense word endings, looked at the geography of Southeastern Asia, finished our paper about a time-traveling English king, learned what a gerund is, and listened to Beethoven, Brahms and Dvorak!

 

 

Homespun Homeschool Week #25

Week 25 of Homeschool: We worked on spelling, practiced tying shoelaces, made a list of our favorite and least favorite fonts, used peanuts-in-the-shell to count by 2’s, drew landscapes, found buried treasure in our front yard while helping Dad do yard work, started writing a story about a king from the Middle Ages who travels to the future in his throne/time machine, created an original font called “Beam Textura II,” read in “The Hobbit,” practiced adding by counting coins, reviewed all of Cycle 2 for CC so far, and won State Honors from the Certificate of Merit program for piano (Field)!

Homespun Homeschool Week #24

Week 24 of Homeschool: In honor of Presidents Day, we read about the Presidents and re-created national landmarks with paper, looked at the geography of more European countries, learned Newton’s Third Law of Motion and performed experiments with screws, nails, apples and pencils to see how simple machines work, read about Japan and made our own Daruma Otoshi game and a carp windsock, diagrammed sentences, learned about how the United Nations began, had fun coloring Narnia scenes, studied Latin first conjugation future tense endings, went on a nature scavenger hunt, learned 5 noun cases, went to our first Certificate of Merit test for piano performance, music theory and ear training (Field), played softball (Francis), learned how to find the area of a triangle, and brought home our new sweet puppy Lucy!

Homespun Homechool Week #23

Week 23 of Homeschool: We painted like the female impressionist Morisot, looked at the history of the early 1800’s, studied Latin first conjugation future tense endings, made Raspberry Love Muffins from our Raddish Kids box, learned Newton’s Second Law of Motion, studied Mary and Martha in the Bible, learned how to find the area of a square, looked at energy transfer in a Newton’s Cradle, learned about noun usages, performed at a group piano lesson, learned Central European Geography, read about the languages that created English, learned about World War II leaders, and celebrated Valentine’s Day with our CC friends!

Homespun Homeschool Week #22

Week 22 of Homeschool: We painted water lilies in the style of French impressionist Monet, worked on Latin imperfect tense endings, read 2 chapters in C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity, learned about verbs, wrote a poem about a boy, performed experiments with balls and pennies to see how inertia works, started writing and designing our own Dog Man book, learned about Newton’s first law of motion, made valentines for our CC group’s celebration, learned about World War 2, gave presentations on our ant farm, learned the area of a rectangle, explored science and motion with gyroscopes, worked on phonics, and went to a retirement home and sang songs and played piano and mandolin for the elderly!

Homespun Homeschool Week #21

Week 21 of Homeschool: We worked on phonetics, learned about World War 1, skip-counted tens with dimes, made a bazillion shrinky-dink key-chains, diagrammed sentences, found the Middle East on a map, counted up to 200! (Francis), made mini works of art by our Cycle 2 artists, then shrunk them (more shrinky-dinks), learned about kinetic and potential energy, made an organ out of bottles and water and played music, learned about Charlemagne’s empire, reviewed Latin imperfect tense word endings, wrote a poem about mortality and nature, learned our metric measurements, had a tooth pulled (Field), and went to meet our new puppy!

Homespun Homeschool Week #20

Week 20 of Homeschool: We learned about Gainsborough and created landscapes in his style, diagrammed sentences, made some goals for 2020 and looked back on 2019, performed experiments with water, did phonics match-ups, worked on Latin, started growing crystals, started writing a paper about medieval knights from 3 source texts, added words to our original language (Field), learned linear equivalent conversions, played Dr. Eureka, found Baltic Europe on our maps, practiced drawing, looked at the states of matter, learned about the leaders of World War 1, learned how to skip count by 2’s (Francis), and programmed our robot Botley!

Homespun Homeschool Week 19

Week 19 of Homeschool: We learned about U.S. Space Missions, experimented with the power of plasma, found European Countries on our maps, watched SpaceX successfully launch the Falcon 9 and Dragon in an effort to return astronauts to space, learned about the Industrial Revolution, drew portraits like Rembrandt using the chiaroscuro technique, looked at liquid equivalents, put together a penguin puzzle, created our first commissioned artworks (Francis), learned about the Vikings and the legend of Thor, practiced adding doubles, looked at Latin present tense verb endings, practiced shading spheres, finished SongSchool Latin Book 2 (go Field!), finished our indefinite pronouns list, practiced piano, started learning algebra, wrote in events on our Timeline, and saw all our Classical Conversations friends again!

 

 

 

 

Homespun Homeschool Week #18

Week 18 of Homeschool: We practiced writing word endings, started reading the Homeschool Detectives series, introduced our pet ants to their new home and watched them dig through their edible, drinkable gel, wrote chapter 2 in our book about the adding of the 51st state (Field)made entries in the Junior Park Ranger workbooks we got at Fort Clatsop in Oregon, flew our drone (thanks Grandma!), wrote a story about Francis getting sucked into an episode of Odd Squad, started piano lessons again (Field), typed our IEW paper about a Lama and an adventure, found wild bunnies at the park, wrote out books of the Bible in order from memory, climbed trees, wrote a report for our CC Presentation next week entitled “Scratch 2.0 – The Coding Beginner’s Most Loved Coding Language,” worked on adding ones and tangram math, looked at the uniqueness of our family in the differences of our fingerprints, drew pictures from The Cat in The Hat, and tossed a fruitcake for National Fruitcake Toss Day!
